How much battery storage does each Northern Fox kit have?

Each battery module stores 3.97 kWh, and you can use 90% of it. One ECM4000 master module is always included, and ECS4000 modules add the rest:

You can start small and add ECS4000 modules later, up to 7 modules per inverter.

Do I need the Fox ESS Hub G2?

Choose the Hub if you want whole-home backup or a generator connection. The Hub G2 sits between the grid and your main panel and manages the switch to battery when the power goes out. Without it, the kit backs up the circuits you choose (fridge, furnace, sump pump, internet, lights) from a backup subpanel.

How does Northern Fox compare with a Tesla Powerwall 3?

A 12 kWh Northern Fox FLEX kit with a 9.6 kW inverter and Hub is $9,700, about $10,000 for a similar-size system. Will it work in a Canadian winter?

Yes, with sensible placement. The battery modules are IP65 rated with integrated heaters and operate from -10°C to 55°C, and the inverter is outdoor rated. Where winters regularly drop below -10°C, install the batteries in an attached garage, or ask us about an insulated outdoor cabinet. Battery storage can't be installed in a basement in Canada.

Does it work without solar panels?

Yes. The hybrid inverter charges the battery from the grid and keeps it ready for outages, and time-of-use settings can charge it when power is cheap. Add solar panels any time to cut your bills further. The H1&AC1 inverter can also be AC-coupled to an existing solar system.
