How much does a Tesla Powerwall 3 cost in Canada?
When the Powerwall 3 launched in Canada in May 2024, Tesla listed it at C$10,974 per unit plus C$1,165 for the Gateway that every system needs, and Canadian guides published in 2026 still quote those figures. They exclude installation, permits, electrical work and tax. Published installed prices for a single Powerwall 3 in Canada range from about C$14,000 to C$24,000, depending on the province, the installer and whether it is added to a new solar system. Powerwall is only sold through Tesla and its certified installers.
Per Tesla's published specifications, a Powerwall 3 stores 13.5 kWh of usable energy, delivers up to 11.5 kW continuously, includes a built-in solar inverter and carries a 10-year warranty.
Best overall alternative: Northern Fox, about $10,000 for a similar-size system
The Maple Leaf Northern Fox FLEX kit pairs a Fox ESS 9.6 kW or 11.4 kW split-phase hybrid inverter with stackable 3.97 kWh LiFePO4 battery modules. Add the Fox ESS Hub G2 ($750 on its own, less than Tesla's Gateway) and it switches your whole home to battery in an outage, with a generator input for long ones.
- 12 kWh with Hub: $9,700. About $10,000 for a system of similar size to one Powerwall 3.
- 16 kWh with Hub: $12,000. More usable storage (14.3 kWh) than one Powerwall 3 for about Tesla's hardware price.
- Room to grow. Up to 7 modules (27.8 kWh) on one inverter, added any time.
- 15-year total warranty, compared with 10 years for Powerwall.
- Built for the cold. IP65 battery modules with integrated heaters and an outdoor-rated inverter.
Prefer one tidy cabinet? The Northern Fox AIO FLEX stacks the inverter and batteries into one all-in-one unit, from $10,200 for 12 kWh with the Hub. Starting from scratch? The Northern Fox Complete Solar + Home Battery Kit adds 550 W+ solar panels, from $9,800 with 8 kWh of storage and 6.6 kW of solar.
Why Northern Fox instead of a plain Fox ESS system?
Northern Fox is the Fox ESS platform engineered, sold and supported in Canada by Maple Leaf Power Systems at Solar Power Store Canada, 526 Bryne Drive, Barrie, Ontario. The difference is who stands behind it:
- Official Fox ESS partner with engineering access in Barrie. As an official Fox ESS partner, our Barrie office has direct engineering access, so design, set-up and troubleshooting questions are answered here.
- Warranty claims and repairs handled in Canada. We act on Northern Fox warranty claims and repairs ourselves. You deal with one reputable Canadian company, not a manufacturer in another country.
- 2.5 extra years of coverage. Maple Leaf Power Systems adds 2.5 years to the 12.5-year manufacturer warranty, for 15 years in total.
Budget pick: Luxpower + Moose
If the lowest price per kWh matters most, pair a Luxpower inverter with a Maple Leaf Moose battery. The Luxpower SNA 12K + Moose kit is $7,604.99 for a 12 kW split-phase (120/240 V) inverter and 14.34 kWh of LiFePO4 storage, about $660 per usable kWh with the inverter included. A second Moose doubles storage to 28.68 kWh for $13,004.99. The Moose is IP65 rated, UL9540A certified, rated for 8,500+ cycles at 80% depth of discharge, and carries a 15-year warranty. Like Northern Fox, Luxpower + Moose systems are supported and repaired by our team in Barrie.
Luxpower + Moose is a strong fit for backup power, cabins and off-grid homes. For a grid-tied solar system that sends power back to your utility, Northern Fox is our first pick, and Luxpower's 18Kpv hybrid inverter also comes bundled with a heated Moose battery.
Battery backup for a sump pump (especially big ones)
Battery backup sump pumps are among the most-searched home backup products in Canada, and most kits add a small second 12 V pump. For larger pumps, or when you want to keep the fridge and furnace running too, a better approach is an inverter that runs your main pump itself:
- Luxpower LXP6K 6 kW split-phase inverter: $1,999
- Maple Leaf Beaver Heated 48 V 100 Ah LiFePO4 battery (5.12 kWh, 4.92 kWh usable, built-in heater that works from -25°C): $1,500 each
- Maple Leaf Mountie insulated IP65 waterproof steel cabinet that holds up to six Beavers and protects them down to -40°C: $1,379.99
With the battery cables, that is $4,968.98 in parts for one battery, or $4,471.99 as our Sump Pump Battery Backup Kit ($5,902.99 with two batteries, with solar panels on a Goose ground mount as an option). One Beaver runs a 1,000 W pump for roughly 4 to 5 hours of actual pumping, and because sump pumps cycle on and off, that usually covers a much longer outage. Add Beavers for bigger pumps, two pumps or multi-day storms. For the biggest jobs, the SNA 12K + 4 Beaver + Mountie kit ($12,199.99) gives you 20.48 kWh and a 12 kW inverter. Have a licensed electrician size the inverter to your pump's nameplate and starting current, mount the inverter indoors on the wall above flood level, and put the batteries outdoors in the Mountie. See our full battery backup sump pump guide for runtime tables and sizing.
How long will a home battery run my house?
Hours of backup = usable kWh ÷ the average kW of the loads you back up. Essentials (fridge, furnace fan, sump pump, internet and some lights) often average 0.5 to 1 kW, so 12 kWh of usable storage lasts roughly 12 to 24 hours, and solar panels can recharge it during the day. Central air conditioning, electric heat, an electric stove or a dryer use far more. See How Much Battery Storage Does Your Home Need? for the full method.
Do home batteries work in a Canadian winter?
Yes, with the right hardware and placement. LiFePO4 batteries must not charge below freezing without heating, so choose batteries with built-in heaters (Northern Fox modules, Beaver Heated) and install them in a garage or outdoors in an insulated cabinet like the Mountie. Home battery storage can't be installed in a basement in Canada. Per Tesla's specifications, Powerwall 3 operates from -20°C to 50°C. Northern Fox battery modules operate from -10°C to 55°C, so where winters get colder than that, put them in an attached garage or an insulated enclosure.

What is the difference between Northern Fox and Fox ESS?
Northern Fox is Fox ESS hardware engineered, sold and supported in Canada by Maple Leaf Power Systems at Solar Power Store Canada in Barrie, Ontario. As an official Fox ESS partner, our team has direct engineering access and handles warranty claims and repairs in Canada, and the warranty runs 15 years in total.
Can a home battery work in a blackout without solar panels?
Yes. Hybrid systems charge from the grid and hold the battery ready, then switch your backed-up circuits to battery automatically when the power goes out. Solar panels add recharging during long outages.
Will a home battery run my sump pump?
Yes. Any of these systems can power a sump pump from a backup circuit. For a dedicated, affordable setup, a Luxpower LXP6K with a Beaver Heated battery in a Mountie cabinet runs a typical 1,000 W pump for 4 to 5 hours of pumping per battery. Our Sump Pump Battery Backup Kit includes all three for $4,471.99.
Can I install a home battery myself?
Connecting a battery system to your home's electrical panel needs an electrical permit and inspection (ESA in Ontario). We ship kits to you or directly to the homeowner for your own licensed electrician to install, or we can help arrange the installation.
Is a home battery better than a generator?
Batteries are silent, need no fuel and switch over automatically; generators run as long as you have fuel. The Fox ESS Hub G2 and Luxpower SNA inverters accept a generator input, so you can have both. See Generator vs. Solar Backup Power.
