Solar Power

Solar power is
a type of renewable energy that is generated by capturing the energy from
sunlight and converting it into electricity. This process is accomplished using
solar panels, which are made up of photovoltaic cells that absorb the energy
from sunlight and convert it into direct current (DC) electricity.

The photovoltaic
cells are made up of layers of silicon and other materials that create an
electric field when exposed to sunlight. As the sunlight hits the cells, the
energy is absorbed and knocks electrons free from the silicon atoms, creating a
flow of electricity. This direct current electricity is then converted into
alternating current (AC) electricity using an inverter, which is the type of
electricity used in homes and businesses.

The main components of a solar system can vary depending on the type and
scale of the system, but in general, a solar system typically includes the
following components:

1. Solar panels: They are responsible for capturing the energy from the sun and converting it into electricity. Solar panels are made up of photovoltaic cells that are wired together to form a module or panel.

2. Inverter/Charge controller/All-In-One: The inverter is a device that converts the direct current (DC) electricity produced by the solar panels into alternating current (AC) electricity, which is used by most household appliances and the electrical grid. The charge controller regulates the flow of electricity between the solar panels and batteries. Newer units typically combine both units into one creating a charge controller-inverter all in one unit.

3. Batteries: In off-grid solar systems, batteries are used to store excess electricity produced by the solar panels for later use when the sun is not shining.

4. Mounting system: The mounting system secures the solar panels to a rooftop or ground-mounted structure, ensuring that they are properly angled to capture the most sunlight.

In addition to these main components, some solar systems may also
include other miscellaneous components such as wiring, combiner boxes, and
disconnect switches.

The location
and orientation of your solar panels are important factors that can affect
their performance and energy output. Here are some general guidelines for
mounting solar panels:

1. Orientation: For maximum sunlight exposure, solar panels should be facing south (in the Northern Hemisphere) or north (in the Southern Hemisphere). For further details regarding the optimal angle, see

2. Shading: Avoid installing solar panels in shaded areas. Even partial shading can significantly reduce energy output.

3. Roof type: Solar panels can be mounted on most types of roofs, including asphalt shingles, metal, tile, and flat roofs. If you have a flat roof, you may need to install a racking system to tilt the panels at the correct angle.

4. Structural integrity: Your roof should be able to support the weight of the solar panels, as well as any mounting hardware and racking systems.

5. Accessibility: Solar panels should be installed in a location that is easily accessible for maintenance and cleaning, as dirt and debris can reduce their performance over time.

6. Ground mount: Solar panels can also be mounted on the ground, which can offer benefits such as easier access for maintenance and cleaning, and the ability to adjust the angle of the panels for optimal sunlight exposure.

Grid-tie,
off-grid, and hybrid solar systems are three types of solar systems that differ
in terms of their connection to the electrical grid and energy storage
capabilities.

1. Grid-Tie Solar System: A grid-tie solar system is designed to work in conjunction with the local utility electrical grid. The system generates electricity from the solar panels during the day, which is then used to power the home or business. Any excess power is sent back to the grid, and the homeowner receives credits on their utility bill. These systems do not have battery backup for energy storage, so they are not able to provide power during a power outage.

2. Off-Grid Solar System: An off-grid solar system is designed to operate independently of the electrical grid. These systems typically use batteries to store excess solar energy generated during the day, which is then used to power the home or business at night or during times of low sunlight.

3. Hybrid Solar System: A hybrid solar system combines the features of both grid-tie and off-grid systems. These systems are connected to the electrical grid and have battery backup for energy storage. During the day, excess solar energy is used to charge the batteries and power the home or business. When the batteries are fully charged and no excess solar energy is being generated, the system sends any excess power back to the grid. During a power outage, the system can automatically switch to using the battery backup, providing power to the home or business until the grid is restored. Hybrid systems are the most versatile and provide the most energy independence but are also the most expensive option.

Order Status and Shipping:

After you place your order, it will typically be fulfilled within 2
business days, but it may take up to 5 business days depending on the season
and the size of the order. It's important to note that your order may be
shipped in several shipments, which will be indicated on the packing list and
on the order under your Solar Power Store account.

Here's what happens after you place your order:

1. Your order will be sent to the warehouse for fulfillment, and it will join the fulfillment queue. Orders will be fulfilled in the order they were placed.

2. The warehouse will start packaging your order, but please note that larger orders may take longer to package due to their size and weight.

3. We will organize shipping with a carrier, but the carrier selected will not be determined until we begin booking the shipment. The carrier used will depend on various factors such as the shipping destination, size, and weight.

4. Once shipping has been organized, you will receive a separate email with tracking details.

5. For freight shipments, appointment delivery will be booked. The freight company will reach out directly to schedule delivery.

6. Once the shipment is delivered, it's important to inspect each piece of equipment for damages. If there are any damages, they must be acknowledged on the driver's bill of lading, and pictures should be taken and reported to Solar Power Store within 48 hours.

7. Finally, confirm that all equipment shipped in the packing list has arrived.

8. It's strongly recommended to have an extra set of help or an additional person around for unloading.

If you selected "custom sales quote," a representative will generate a custom
shipping quote to your address. They will update your order to include the cost
of shipping and reach out to you with a checkout link to complete the
outstanding payment on your order.

Once payment for shipping is received, your order will be sent to the warehouse for
fulfillment. From there, it will go through the same process as a regular
order, including packaging and shipment.

Orders are
packaged and shipped based on the equipment purchased. For small orders, the
equipment is packaged into a box, including wire, accessories, single
batteries, etc., and shipped using a parcel delivery company. The shipping
company is selected during the preparation of shipping arrangements.

For larger
orders, such as multiple batteries, panels, kits, and inverters, the equipment
is packaged and strapped onto pallets and shipped with a freight company. These
shipments will be booked as appointment delivery, and the shipping company will
reach out in advance to schedule a delivery appointment with you.

If you require
tailgate services or do not have the means to unload a pallet from a semi
transport truck, be sure to select the option during checkout. With tailgate
services, the delivery truck will be equipped with a liftgate to unload the
pallets off the truck onto the ground level. It's strongly recommended to have
an extra set of help or an additional person around for unloading.

The carriers
selected for shipping will vary depending on several factors, such as the
shipment's destination, size, weight, and type.

For parcel
shipments, Solar Power Store works with the following shipping carriers:
Canpar, FedEx Express, FedEx Ground, GLS Ground, Purolator, and UPS.

For freight
shipments, Solar Power Store works with the following carriers: Apex, CCT, Day
& Ross, FedEx Freight, Kindersley Transport, TST Standard, Western Canada
Express, and YRC.

Please note
that sometimes carriers may hand off shipments to local transportation to
complete the delivery to their destination. Deliveries to remote areas may
require pickup from a local depot.

If you order shipped as a parcel, they will be delivered to your door,
while freight deliveries will be made via a freight transport truck. If you
selected the tailgate option during checkout, the delivery truck will have a
liftgate to unload the pallets onto the ground level. It will be your
responsibility to move the equipment from the truck to where you would like to
store it.

While accepting a shipment, follow the steps below:

1. Inspect the equipment for damages. Although damages are relatively rare, claims must be dealt with immediately. If there is any damage, it must be acknowledged by the driver on the BOL. Be sure to take a picture of the BOL and the damaged equipment. All damages must be reported to Solar Power Store within 48 hours. Failure to report damages within 48hrs may result in the freight company and/or Solar Power Store rejecting the claim.

2. Ensure that all the equipment included in the packing list has arrived.

Please note that your order may have shipped in several shipments, which
will be noted on the packing list as well as on your Solar Power Store account.
